If you are not a parent of a student currently enrolled in the PSD and you would like to become a regular volunteer at a School District school you must pass three background clearances: the PA Criminal Record Check, a PA Child Abuse History Clearance and an FBI background check.

If you ARE a parent please visit this page.

Before working in a school, all potential volunteers must show proof that their clearances are in process. Once the final reports are received they must be provided to school’s administrators (or as per school’s policy). Money Orders can be purchased at any US Postal Office.

1. Request for Criminal Record Check

  • This must be completed first. It can be performed online – which will provide results immediately. Cost is $10.00 (by credit card)
  • Visit https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp
  • Select “Submit a New Record Check”
  • Read and accept Terms and Conditions
  • Follow instructions

2. Request for Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance  - Must be done through the mail. Cost is $10.00 (by money order)

3. Request for FBI Clearance  - Registration can be completed online. Cost is $28.75 (by credit card). This is a two-step process, however, and after registering, each individual must present at a fingerprinting station.

  • B. Fingerprinting
    • To find the closest fingerprinting location, visit https://www.pa.cogentid.com/index_pde.htm
    • Look for link labeled “Print Locations & Hours”
    • Click on desired site for location information (time, hours, etc) – NOTE: It seems most UPS Store locations provide this service and we’ve been told fingerprinting is also done at the School District headquarters at 440 N. Broad Street. But, as always, call ahead in order to confirm.
    • Take a copy of registration confirmation and valid photo ID to fingerprinting location.
    • Be sure to record your TCN (Transaction Control Number)
    • For more information on photo IDs, visit
    • Your results are usually posted within 48 hours of fingerprinting. The School District will be able to review your clearance online for up to 1 year. You can download an unofficial personal copy for your records for 30 days.
